New Fitness Space Opens for Military Mums in Colchester
The NAAFI Fund awarded a £15,000 grant to 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, in Colchester, to support their ‘Project Blue Roots’ initiative. This project aims to create a safe and supportive space for pregnant and postpartum servicewomen and wives to exercise and maintain their physical and mental well-being.
The grant was used to repurpose a room within the barracks, equipping it with gym flooring and basic exercise equipment. This dedicated space will allow women to train together, reducing feelings of isolation and providing a supportive community.
Project Blue Roots is a vital initiative that recognizes the unique needs of pregnant and postpartum women in the military. By providing a safe and accessible space for exercise, the project aims to improve maternal health, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being.
The NAAFI Fund is proud to support this important initiative and looks forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of servicewomen and military spouses.
A Pregnant Servicewoman based in Colchester said “If a female soldier got pregnant 30 or 40 years ago, they’d have been kicked out of the Army, but now we’re in a place where pregnant soldiers are being offered support in a dedicated facility. I think it’s fantastic to be a part of this progress.”
