RAF Akrotiri's Oasis Shines Brighter: £10,000 NAAFI Boost!
The sunny skies of RAF Akrotiri just got a little brighter, and it’s all thanks to a NAAFI Fund Grant! Back in 2023, we awarded a huge £10,000 to the Oasis Welfare Centre, a vital hub for unaccompanied permanent Junior Ranks and detached/deployed personnel passing through this bustling station.
The team at the Oasis Welfare Centre work tirelessly to try to provide a place for people to unwind, recharge and connect, but their outdoor area was, shall we say, a little… untamed. Overgrown greenery, a distinct lack of shade, and minimal privacy meant this fantastic space wasn’t quite living up to its full potential.
At NAAFI, we’re all about supporting our incredible Armed Forces community, and that means creating comfortable and welcoming environments where serving personnel can truly feel at ease. That’s why we were so excited to get behind the Oasis Welfare Centre’s vision for a revitalised outdoor space.
The addition of new furniture, including planters, dedicated relaxation areas, a small decking area, and those stylish white stones, will undoubtedly create a much more inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment. Alongside the revamped beach bar area, this will create a much more welcoming and enjoyable venue for everyone, not forgetting the all important privacy shade.
We believe these enhancements will make a real difference to the daily lives of the personnel who rely on the Oasis Welfare Centre. It’s about creating a space where they can truly relax – a little slice of home away from home.
Squadron Leader Jenny Gregory, Acting Officer Commanding Base Support Wing, RAF Akrotiri, said “The generous donation from the NAAFI Fund has enable significant changes to a facility that needed improvement. The newly renovated outdoor areas and bespoke furnishings have not only enhanced the aesthetics of the facility but have increased its appeal and usability for a workforce in need. RAF Akrotiri is grateful for the NAAFI’s support in enabling this project.”
