Safe Space Opens for Service Victims and Families

The NAAFI Fund has donated £3,135 to support a Victim and Family Welfare Suite at the Victim Witness Care Unit in Portsmouth. The suite was created from a disused office, into a safe and comfortable space for Service victims and their families to speak freely and openly about their experiences.

The Victim Welfare Suite is a valuable resource for Service victims and their families.  The suite will be used by victims of all types of crime, including domestic abuse, sexual assault and hate crime. It will provide a space where victims can feel safe and supported, and where they can receive the help they need to rebuild their lives.

The Project Lead said “The generous funding from the NAAFI has enabled us to decorate and enhance the Victim Welfare Centre Unit’s quiet room.  Thank you and your team for the financial support in enabling us to produce this space, it has genuinely proved invaluable for both us the workers and the clients.”

The Victim Liaison Officer stated “I have found the quiet room to be a benefit to both clients and staff. It is a relaxing room and gives the required privacy for clients. I have used the room on many occasions for Teams meetings and client calls as I often find the office can be provide distractions and noise with other staff working on calls etc.

If a client is feeling emotional and upset, then the room is ideal to be able to provide a soothing environment with no background noise.”
