During Round One, 5 Force Support Battalion received funding of around £5,000 for a new set of mountain bikes. Getting out on the bikes offers multiple benefits to the personnel including; green and sustainable transport, enriching families’ ability to explore the surrounding areas and offering children the opportunity to learn to ride a bike safely.
The Battalion’s new bikes were used for the first time as part of a skills development and training ride, in preparation for the Army Inter United Cross Country race series.
The grant holder explained: “The injection of enthusiasm that the arrival of these bikes has inflicted has made it almost tangible as every week there are more people showing interest.
‘In the wider spectrum, these bikes have also been a mechanism for growth between local units as we now have a trade-in for old bikes to be switched for new ones.”
