A New Hub for RMP Juniors

Ever felt like your Mess was in need of a serious upgrade? Well, the RMP Juniors at 1 RMP in Donnington can definitely relate! Thanks to a generous £15,000 grant from the NAAFI Fund, their old, outdated Corporal’s Mess has undergone a complete transformation.

The former Corporal’s Mess was, let’s just say, a bit of a snoozefest. But with a little creativity and a lot of hard work, they were able to turn it into a vibrant and inviting space that the juniors can truly call their own.

What’s new and improved?

  • A Snug Room: A comfy retreat, complete with a large TV, PS5 console and numerous board and card games.
  • Sports Bar Area: Grab a drink, watch the game on another large TV, and catch up with friends in the new seating area.
  • Coffee Area: Fuel up with a delicious cuppa or bite to eat in between shifts.
  • Large Activities Area: Whether you’re into gaming, pool, or just hanging out, this space has got you covered with arcade style machines, darts area and pool tables.

This renovation has done more than just improve the physical appearance of the Corporal’s Mess. It has also had a significant impact on the social well-being of the RMP Juniors.  By providing a space where they can relax, socialize, and participate in events, they’ve helped to foster a stronger sense of community and belonging within the unit.

Corporal Roxanne Glynne-Jones said “The Corporals Mess was extremely dated, worn down and mismatch with no warmth or character. Due to the funding for the renovation and equipment, it has given the place a new lease of life.  We cannot thank  NAAFI enough for the change to our Mess and what this will mean for not only us but future arrivals!”

Corporal Annie Durkin said “The funding for the mess has hugely benefited the JNCO lived in experience. It is now a comfortable and pleasant place to socialise.  It now has a more modern feel to it that is more suitable to the JNCO cohort including the gaming tables and electronics, this in turn has improved each person’s morale and created a positive atmosphere for the mess.”

Corporal Josh Howarth said “The funding has dramatically improved the mess. We use it more often and more people attend now in an evening; this is largely due to the improved standard of amenities inside.”
