The Air Mobility Force stationed in the Falkland Islands recently secured a £6,000 grant from the NAAFI Fund to execute a vital upgrade to their T-Bar. The project successfully modernised this area, ensuring personnel have a hygienic and inviting space to rest and socialise.
The project lead recognised that with demanding working patterns and shifts, the staff needed a space that wasn’t just functional, but genuinely inviting, to rest and socialise. The old Tea Bar was definitely past its prime.
This area is heavily used by the Air Movements Team and Air Transport Security Team while they handle passengers and freight through the terminal. Now, thanks to the grant, they have a dedicated, modern space where they can recharge.
Beyond the functional upgrade, this project addresses a significant morale issue. Currently, the living accommodation lacks a common room for all ranks. This meant the team were often restricted to their own rooms, leading to limited off-duty interaction.
The new and improved Tea Bar is spacious enough to be a vital social hub. It’s where the entire AMF team, and those who work nearby, can now gather in comfortable surroundings.
Squadron Leader Graham, Mount Pleasant Complex said “The refurbishment facilitated by the NAAFI Fund investment into the tea bar is fantastic, it looks great and really functional. This really is a great place for everyone to come and use to enjoy some down time between flights and duties. My sincere thanks to NAAFI for the funds to complete this task, without them the result would have been extremely disappointing!”
