At 17 Port & Maritime Regiment’s Junior Ranks Cookhouse, it’s not just the aroma of a delicious meal anymore—it’s a breathtaking new mural that’s turning heads and stirring up some serious pride.

This isn’t just any old painting, this is an epic tribute to Army Maritime and its incredible journey over the last 80 years. We’re talking about a vibrant, detailed piece of art that recognises the former units and their pivotal role in some of the most significant conflicts in recent history. It’s a powerful way to honor their legacy and the hard work that goes into being part of this distinguished regiment.

And the best part? A huge thank you is owed to the NAAFI Fund, whose generous donation of £5,000 made this whole project possible. This wasn’t just a simple donation; it was a vote of confidence in the regiment’s history and a recognition of the importance of remembering where they came from. The regiment is truly humbled by the support, which has helped create a tribute that will be cherished for generations.

A member of the Maritime Veteran community said “Seeing this mural brought a wave of pride and reflection. It captures the heart of what it meant to serve in the Regiment and within Army Maritime. For those of us who wore the uniform, it’s a powerful reminder of the camaraderie, the challenges, and the honour of our shared service. It means a great deal to know our legacy is remembered in such a meaningful way.”

You can even spot a special guest in the mural itself—a classic NAAFI truck! This small but mighty detail is more than just a nod; it’s a big shout-out to the incredible support NAAFI has provided to service personnel for over 100 years. From a cup of tea in a war zone to a much-needed snack on a long day, NAAFI has been there, and this mural beautifully highlights that enduring partnership.

When looking at the mural, you’ll see more than just paint—you’ll see a story. A story of bravery, commitment, and a deep-seated bond between a regiment and the organisations like the NAAFI Fund that stand with them. It’s a powerful reminder that while the sea may separate shores, the bonds of service, support, and shared history are what truly connect us all.
