As you know, the NAAFI Fund are always looking for new ways to support serving personnel and their families, and sometimes the best ideas are the ones that get you moving! That’s why we were so excited to award a £1,830 grant to the crew of Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Tidesurge to purchase three brand new road bikes.
It’s a simple idea with a huge impact. These bikes will be used to promote healthy lifestyles, improve fitness, and offer a sustainable way for the crew to get around when they’re in port. Instead of being stuck on the ship or relying on taxis, the crew can now hop on a bike to explore a new city, grab some supplies, or just enjoy a ride.
What makes this even better is how we partnered with our fantastic supplier, Halfords, and thanks to their support, we secured an extra 10% discount on the purchase. This wasn’t just a small saving- it meant the crew could also buy extra inner tubes, locks, helmets, and light sets. It’s a perfect example of how our strong relationships with suppliers help us stretch every pound, so our grant recipients get more bang for their buck!
