What is the NAAFI Fund?

The NAAFI Fund offers units worldwide the opportunity to fund their own welfare and wellbeing projects.

NAAFI has pledged to give back £10m by 2030 through the Fund, supporting projects that improve the lives of Defence Communities wherever they are based. From welfare housing and gardens to sports equipment and leisure facilities, grants enable the development of projects that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible.

We’re doing things a little different this year! Our next instalment of the Fund will open on 1st April and our application window has been extended to two months, closing on 30th May. Find out more information before you apply below.

“With previously untapped views across the airfield, it’s now a relaxing outdoor space for personnel to enjoy at RAF Northolt. Without the support from the NAAFI Fund, this simply would not have been possible.”

Tom Woods, Squadron Leader at RAF Northolt

“The NAAFI Fund has transformed an under-utilised facility into a welcoming and friendly space for personnel, children and veterans at RAF Cranwell to enjoy.”

Tina Jessup, Station Commander – RAF Cranwell

“The well-being garden and rest area has been a wonderful addition to HMS Collingwood. We have filled an unused space with greenery, shrubbery and furniture and ensured our personnel are looked after.”

WO1 Mark Gower, Base Warrant Officer at HMS Collingwood

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible?

Funding is available for all UK Armed Forces personnel and their families – wherever they are in the world.

Charities and other organisations are not eligible to apply for this programme however you are welcome to work together with a charity or other local organisation as part of your project.

What's available?

Personnel and their units can submit multiple applications for funding, however each individual application must not exceed £50,000.  To avoid duplication, we ask applicants to check with other members of their squadron/unit to ensure funding applications have not already been submitted for the same project.

What can a grant be used for?

The NAAFI Fund supports a variety of projects from mountain bikes and paddleboards to enhancing and refurbishing indoor and outdoor spaces. We want to hear from you, whatever your vision is! You can browse our Project Portfolios for inspiration about how you can improved the lived experiences of your unit.

What can't I apply for?

There are only three things the NAAFI Fund doesn’t support, these are:

Events such as family days, dinner evenings and short breaks. We want the items purchased from grants to have longevity in improving the lives of Defence Communities.

Subscriptions such as Peleton and Sky. We love to measure the long-lasting impact and the amount of people who benefit from our funding.

Vehicles such as motorhomes, caravans and minibuses, to avoid potential future fees putting the units we support under extra pressure after their project is completed.

Can I apply outside of the application window?

Absolutely! When funding is required quickly, to support operational activity or deployments, grants can be fast-tracked.

If you project is under £1,000 and the annual application window is closed, please send your proposal to funding@naafi.co.uk. Please note this amount is limited and will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
