The NAAFI Fund is pleased to announce the award of a £5,000 grant to the Physical Development Wing of the Infantry Training Centre, located at the McKay VC Gymnasium within Catterick Garrison.
As one of the largest departments within the Infantry Training Centre (ITC), the Physical Development Wing is critical to maintaining the readiness and resilience of future Infantry soldiers. Recognising the importance of staff well-being, the grant was allocated to significantly upgrade the department’s dedicated welfare facility.
This funded project has delivered a remarkable uplift to the welfare suite within the Physical Development Wing. The investment focused on providing much needed improvements to the daily environment of the All Arms Physical Training Instructors (AAPTI) and Royal Army Physical Training Corps Instructors (RAPTCI).
Key components of the project grant include:
- New Furniture: Providing dedicated, comfortable seating areas for rest periods
- Welfare Amenities: Procuring new crockery, cutlery, and kitchen accessories.
- Essential Equipment: Installing a professional-grade coffee machine, acknowledged as a key morale booster.
The goal of this initiative was to move beyond basic provisions and create a dedicated, high-quality space that reflects the value of the Physical Development Wing’s essential contributions.
The transformation of the welfare suite has yielded immediate and significant results. The uplift has directly contributed to a substantial improvement in team morale by providing a functional, comfortable environment for personnel to take vital breaks.
Cpl Phelps AAPTI said “The new welfare suite has been a game-changer for us as All Arms Physical Training Instructors. It provides a comfortable and well-equipped space to recover, plan, and refocus between sessions. Having a dedicated area shows that our role and well-being are valued, which has boosted morale and allowed us to deliver even better training to our teams through collaboration within this environment.”
