On Friday 14th March, members of NAAFI Head Office travelled to Lincoln for a special unveiling ceremony.
Organised by Baroness Sarah Hogg, IBCC Trustee, ten 8-foot silhouettes of Women In War were unveiled that saw 18 women in senior Defence roles cutting the ribbons.
NAAFI’s HR Director, Mary Pittuck, was kindly asked to represent Renee Woods who was sadly killed by 5 German bombs which destroyed the NAAFI at RAF Waddington 9th May 1941. Six NAAFI girls were killed during the raid including Manager, Doris Constance Raven, whom the rebuilt NAAFI building was named after in her memory as The Raven’s Club.
The ceremony was particularly special as it also featured the RAF’s first all-female flypast including a Prefect from 57 Squadron at RAF Cranwell, a Typhoon from 11 Squadron based at RAF Coningsby and an Atlas from 206 Squadron at RAF Brize Norton. A special moment for all!
