What is Ecosia?
Ecosia is a search engine that uses its advertising revenue to fund tree-planting and environmental restoration projects around the world. When it is used to search online, the money from ads goes toward planting trees in places that need them most. It’s an easy way for anyone to support the environment just by doing something they already do every day.
Ecosia uses a significant portion (at least 80%) of its profits to fund reforestation projects in regions affected by deforestation, climate change or biodiversity loss.
How is NAAFI becoming more sustainable?
To boost our sustainability efforts, we have been using Ecosia as our default search engine since April – and the impact speaks for itself! Since adoption, we have collectively searched 20,306 times, helping to plant an estimated 406 trees thus creating 4,392 days of fresh air for our planet in only 2 months!
NAAFI is dedicated to being more sustainable. In December 2024, a focus group was formed with departmental representatives to collectively increase our efforts throughout the company. The implementation of Ecosia is just one of the first outputs of the group; starting on a high!
Ecosia's impressive projects

- Ecosia’s work in Romania re-wilding forest spaces has resulted in cameras grabbing footage of a bear, while helping to restore habitats. A wildlife win!
- Each year, millions of monarch butterflies fly over 3,000 km to a single forest in central Mexico to survive the winter; but their forest is disappearing. Ecosia has teamed up with Planet Wild, WWF Mexico, and Indigenous communities so that our searches now help to protect it.
- Pledging $100k to the Jane Goodall Tanzania project after Trump’s administration’s cuts to USAID.
We love using Ecosia at NAAFI and encourage everyone to make this simple switch to help save our wildlife.
