The NAAFI Fund is all about making life on base a little more “uplifting” and we are thrilled to spotlight a project that is quite literally full of hot air, in the best way possible!
We’ve recently awarded a £1,800 grant to the 1st Battalion Irish Guards in Aldershot to replace a beloved local legend: the battalion bouncy castle but with a competitive twist!
For 15 years, the previous bouncy castle was the undisputed champion of family fun days and garrison events. It survived over a decade of enthusiastic jumping, but unfortunately, it failed its annual safety inspection.
When the Battalion Welfare Team looked into it, they found that repairing the old unit would cost just as much as buying a brand-new one. It was time for a fresh start!
Alongside a fresh bouncy castle, the grant has funded a brand-new Gladiator Joust station complete with pugil sticks! While the kids enjoy the bounce, the more competitive parents can settle friendly scores in a test of balance and coordination. It’s the perfect addition to the welfare team’s toolkit for building morale and bringing a bit of “warrior spirit” to family fun days.
The Irish Guards Welfare Team does incredible work keeping spirits high for serving personnel and their families. Whether it’s a summer BBQ or a “Welcome Home” event, these gatherings are vital for building community.
By funding a brand-new inflatable, we’re helping ensure that:
Safety comes first: The new unit is fully compliant with modern safety standards.
Family fun is guaranteed: Hundreds of children (and maybe a few “young at heart” soldiers) have a safe space to play.
Budgets stay protected: Instead of sinking funds into a patchwork repair, the battalion now has a high-quality asset that will last for years to come.
A huge thank you to Monster Event Hire! They’ve been a long-time partner with the battalion, providing the expert inspection that kept everyone safe and supplying the shiny new replacement.
We are so proud to support the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. Seeing the community come together (and occasionally knock each other off a podium with a pugil stick) is what the NAAFI Fund is all about!
The NAAFI Fund exists to support projects that enhance welfare and improve quality of life for Service Personnel and their families. If your unit has an inspiring idea, we want to hear from you!
