Imagine you and your friends wanting to try a new sport, like field hockey. But you need special gear, especially for the goalie, who’s the superhero of the team! That’s where the NAAFI Fund steps in.

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment were awarded a £2,265 grant to fund the Regimental Hockey team’s request of a field goalkeeper’s kit.

Within just three weeks of getting the new kit, more and more members of the Regiment and even folks from the wider HQ British Forces Gibraltar were grabbing their sticks and joining in the training sessions. Trying new things is important, and sports like field hockey are a great way to have fun, stay active and encourage teamwork.

On February 22nd, 2024, the brand-new kit made its big debut in a real match! A member of The Royal Gibraltar Regiment bravely donned the kit and faced off against a visiting Army U25 team.

The NAAFI Fund’s grant wasn’t just about buying a kit; it was about opening up a whole new world of fun and sports for everyone. It’s about giving people a chance to discover hidden talents, make new friends and improve the wellbeing of serving personnel, wherever they are around the world.
