Improvements to family-run early year’s centre

During Round 3, funding of Β£12,000 was granted for the improvement of Peter Pan’s Community Centre in Gamecock Barracks, Nuneaton. The centre begand as a toddler group created by families, for families, and has now developed into a full day care provision. Working with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, the project will allow the centre to provide sessions for pre-school and nursery children to explore the world around them, gain confidence working in groups and learn new skills.

Head of Establishment and Commanding Officer, Regt Lt Colonel Smith, said: β€œThe fantastic support from the NAAFI Fund will have a positive and tangible impact on the whole community and provide a safe and well-resourced outdoor learning environment.

β€˜The project will especially support our service children whose parents are often deployed on operations or exercises whilst part of this high readiness unit. This is not only for individual mental health, but for the long-term health of our planet, educating our future generations about our environment is crucial.”

Station Staff officer Mrs Julie Fitton said: β€œOutdoor learning has never been more important; this was evident during the pandemic. Educating future generations about our environment, this is an excellent space for service children and the wider station community to utilise.”
