A Growing Garden for Growing Minds

In 2024, the NAAFI Fund awarded a £23,000 grant for improvements to the Bright Horizons Day Care Centre on Leuchars Station.  Their goal was to transform the current tired external teaching area/garden into a safe and inspiring learning environment where service children can explore and grow.

Spending time with nature has been proven to enhance children’s cognitive development, creativity and overall wellbeing.  This revamped outdoor area will ensure children have access to quality educational opportunities extending beyond the classroom walls.

Major Trevor Gray, Project Lead, stated “Leuchars Station are extremely grateful for the funding received from the NAAFI Fund.  The Centre, staff and children are delighted with the provision and are excited to use and explore their new area.”

The built structure will be utilised as an outdoor classroom for children to rest and relax  away from the Centre, along with providing a stimulating sensory area for some the children who have additional support needs, something which the Centre has required for a long time.  In addition to these much-needed enhancements, a new perimeter fence installation has also significantly improved the aesthetics of the Centre’s outdoor area and increased the overall security for all children and staff.
