NAAFI Fund Facilitates Beach Improvements for RAF Akrotiri

During Round 3 of the NAAFI Fund, Β£7,500 was awarded to RAF Akrotiri to improve the facilities at their beach area.

Based in Cyprus, the project’s aim was to provide a welcoming space for personnel and their families to relax by the Mediterranean Sea.

Improvements to the area saw 55 new sunbeds installed and since then, over 450 people from a wide range of backgrounds have signed up to be a member of their Beach Club.

Project sponsor, Daniel Lowe, said: β€œRAF Akrotiri is home to a diverse range of serving personnel and civilians and despite being an attractive place to serve, it carries its own challenges which can be difficult to overcome.

β€˜There are plenty of cultural differences which make adapting to life in Cyprus challenging, which makes the provision of well-furnished and functioning welfare facilities key, in helping British Forces based in the country.”
