NAAFI Fund Facilitates Beach Improvements for RAF Akrotiri

During Round 3 of the NAAFI Fund, £7,500 was awarded to RAF Akrotiri to improve the facilities at their beach area.

Based in Cyprus, the project’s aim was to provide a welcoming space for personnel and their families to relax by the Mediterranean Sea.

Improvements to the area saw 55 new sunbeds installed and since then, over 450 people from a wide range of backgrounds have signed up to be a member of their Beach Club.

Project sponsor, Daniel Lowe, said: “RAF Akrotiri is home to a diverse range of serving personnel and civilians and despite being an attractive place to serve, it carries its own challenges which can be difficult to overcome.

‘There are plenty of cultural differences which make adapting to life in Cyprus challenging, which makes the provision of well-furnished and functioning welfare facilities key, in helping British Forces based in the country.”
